They are (by my standards) very well off & usually ask the people at their hotels for advice on nice restaurants to go to, so I can't imagine her going to anything downmarket.
This is a woman who went on a cruise with a top cruise line, where dining room meals are included in the price. Yet every night they went to the paying restaurant because it was smaller and not many people and as she explained it, prices were reasonable for top meals. It was probably about $30 a head but that's $60 a night and they were away for about 54 nights!!
Me, I'd be in the dining room-if I could persuade my husband, he likes the buffet-faster!
So I doubt it was somewhere like Applebees as they don't seem to do chain restaurants.
One of her complaints about USA actually was she said little cafes for cake & coffee were a bit light on the ground, they all tended to be chains & hamburger joints which she was not interested in.
My friend lives in Caulfield area here, on a road that is filled with little quirky cafes, so that's what she is used to.
On the plus side, she loved some of the shops & sales. She is becoming a grandmother in dec and had to buy a second suitcase to bring back baby clothes-she said American sales really are sales and children's clothing was a real bargain.
Over here, virtually everything gets a tag on it then a marked down price immediately. Everything is supposedly on sale all the time. But not really!
But I will ask her about the name of the restaurant, if she can remember, or where it was.
Last year she was at a 4 star place where it was so dark another diner lent her a torch to read the menu. She makes me laugh sometimes.
