to all. Hope you have a nice break with the family.
That's my grandson a few months back. Thought he fitted the Easter theme with those rabbit ears!

Cute Photo.
I proposed to our family that this year we celebrate Easter with some BBQ Rabbit. That did not get a good reception, so instead, we kill a pig and BBQ it.
These Floridians have no sense of taste..............sigh.

I think I would be vegetarian if I had to kill the animal! Actually, I think a rabbit would be easier than a pig!! But happy Easter in any case!

I like rabbit, it's quite tasty, and there's loads of them down the rocks. But they reckon you get no nutrition or anything, out of eating them.

I was sure you must get some, granty. So I just googled. Rabbit meat is very lean, commercial rabbit meat has 50–100 g dissectable fat per 2 kg (live weight). Based on a carcass yield of 60%, rabbit meat is around 8.3% fat. For comparison, in terms of carcass composition, beef and pork are 32% fat and lamb 28%. The facts behind the rabbit nutrition in its meat and its value as a food source are glowing with positive points. It has half the calories of pork, less then half the fat of beef and is over 20% protein. Rabbits haven been used for meat as far back as 1500BC
Rabbit is all white meat. This makes it great for certain diets. France is the world’s biggest supplier and buyer of rabbit meat. While feeding off its mother’s milk, a new born rabbit can double its weight in just 6 days. It is common for rabbit meat to be used in special diets for the aged, for heart disease patients and weight loss. Rabbit is in season all year, but is best to eat during the winter months because of natural fats that are built up.
----------------- The main thing though seems to be that it needs to be part of a diet, not the only thing in your diet because it is so low fat. So if you use oil when cooking it or ate other food with it and during the week, you would be fine. I would guess that is like a lot of foods that might be good for you but not if you ate them to the exclusion of everything else. I'm guessing, but I would say rabbit went out of fashion when all the chemicals were released to kill them. People would have been scared of catching a diseased rabbit.

They reckon if you lived off Rabbits, you'll die.

Well that is probably true of a lot of foods, isn't it. If you only ate bread or chicken or celery, you would probably not do so well either. It's a healthy food but lean. So you need a bit of fat in your diet too.
Anyway, you probably aren't planning on living on rabbit exclusively. I imagine most people would eat it with vegies/potatoes etc

We flipped a coin and the Pig lost out. Now, he just hangs around.
Nice hams though.

I was in outdoor world on International drive Orlando, about 12 year ago, and I was in the gun section, and there was this fella buying a 'Dirty Harry' type revolver to shoot wild Boar. I got talking to him and he told me theres loads of wild Boars in Florida, he said he hunts them with his dogs, a shotgun is no good, you need a revolver type gun to stop them.
