Good grief.........Orlando, Florida in the National News again?
What's wrong in Orlando that turns people off to Disney World? After all, Disney World has spent billions of dollars to create the finest amusement park in the world. When one asks someone else "Where are going now", they usually respond "Disney World". Unfortunately, I don't think that the City of Orlando understands the economic impact they have on the outcome of their elected officials in assuring the safety of their community. Hence............Let's go to "Six Flags Over Texas" instead? Economic ruin for Florida and "Come on Down" for Texas.
Here is what I'm talking about:
www.clickorlando.com/news/politics/gov-scott-calls-for-state-attorney-aramis-ayala-to-recuse-herself
This person not only killed his pregnant girlfriend, but executed a police officer who responded to the 911 call. If found guilty........he deserves to die. Period.
The United States allows the "Death Penalty", and it is in force in most states. In Florida, and in Texas (the 2 most prolific capital murder states), If you kill a Cop.....you will die. If you kill a pregnant woman.....you will die. We believe that the lives of Cops and Pregnant Women are more important than the life of the person who executed the Cops and/or Pregnant Women.
The only part of these laws I have in disagreement with, is the inordinate amount of time it takes in keeping these killers alive before the State sticks a needle in their arm and gets the "Juices Flowing".......so to speak. Killers need to have one appeal procedure and only one appeal procedure. First they go back to the court that sentenced them to death. If that fails, they should be allowed to either appeal in the State Court system, or the Federal Court system. It does not matter to me which courts they prefer, but what does matter is when they have exhausted this first appeal process, which might take up to 4-5 years, they are executed within 30 days of the final court's decision.
The second issue I have with the Orlando Loyd case is the apparent existence of "Reverse Discrimination". If you watch the video from the above captioned news release, you will notice that the County Prosecutor who declined to seek the death penalty is Black, as well is the accused murderer. If that killer had been a White Skin Headed male with tattoo's all over his body, do you think she would have declined to seek the death penalty? I think not.
The Governor of Florida stepped in and removed her from the case and assigned it to a state prosecutor, as well he should have done. Now he needs to remove her from any prosecutorial procedures ever again. In short, she should be disbarred (means having her license to practice law). She has openly violated her oath of office, which is to defend the State of Florida against anyone who violates state laws, either domestic or foreign.
Orlando (Home of Disney World) is getting a very bad reputation. Openly Gay night clubs with mass murderers and cops who won't go in to the building and take him out before he kills more, killers who kill pregnant women and then execute cops.........It's a mess.
But on the good side........ "Welcome to Texas" Disney World Lovers.

There's a guy here who shot a police officer in the face. The officer didn't die but it caused some trauma. The shooter got 6 years. But with good behaviour, it will come down to a lot less than that.
Apparently crime rates in Victoria/Melbourne are up about 45% in the last year or two. Not everyone will come out and say it but it is caused by lawless gangs of foreigners-mainly African refugees and the like. They are running amok with no sense of paying any consequences. And muslims who refuse to stand for a judge or show respect to anyone in court except Allah. Not that Allah is about to appear any time soon.

Oh and yes, lots of Aussies got to Disneyland, but the one over in Calif. It's closer. Most never make it to the Florida one so you aren't losing much of the aussie trade although it may affect the number of Americans visiting.

I like the line. Should do a letter to the editor. bet they would print it. Trouble is, it wouldn't change anything. I think the problem (if you like to call it that) is that the whole of society has been undergoing a change over the last 50 years-moving from a punishment model to a more consultative/behaviour modification model. I noticed it very much in schools. Once upon a time, punishment was the norm, nowadays you have to negotiate everything & that includes writing classroom rules. Wrongdoing-you have a deep and meaningful chat. Collaborative learning, it is called. Collaborative discipline. I think the police force here has been under a similar change of image to community helpers, a force for good etc
Works with about 90-95% of normal kids in schools but there is a core group it will never work with & I think the same is true with criminals. The drug ice is rife here & that isn't helping either.

Fair enough.
"The only part of these laws I have in disagreement with, is the inordinate amount of time it takes in keeping these killers alive before the State sticks a needle in their arm and gets the "Juices Flowing".......so to speak."
Forget justice for a moment. If the state started doing many more executions of innocent people, the disincentive to murder would be reduced significantly.

I'm not a huge fan of execution but I definitely think there is a case for having some serious crimes carrying a life sentence that means just that-life with no chance of parole under any circumstances.

My point is that if you want a justice system that actually deters criminals, you need accurate prosecutions and to minimise errors, not only actually punishing offenders, sometimes severely.

Justice systems are not now, nor ever have been a deterrent of crime. Just look at your own justice system for a classic example.
Catch and Release does no one (other than the criminal) any good.
Justice systems are designed, or at least should be, to punish offenders. Most people think if you put more Cops on the streets, crime will go down. It doesn't work that way. Cops do not deter crime, they arrive too late to be of any good in the determent of the criminal act. If you want determent of crime.............carry a gun. That way, you will be front and center when a crime on you occurs. Beyond that, you are throwing your money away.
The court system works in the same manner. Putting a murderer away for life does not deter crime. Again, just the opposite. Murderers get out of prison and commit murder again and again. And, if you sentence someone to life without the possibility of parole, they simply kill people inside the prison........like guards and/or other inmates.
There are more murderers, sentenced to life, who got out of prison and committed murder again, and again than those who were theoretically "innocent" and executed.
The only determent to murder is the death penalty. To prove my point, name me one person who was executed that committed another murder.
If you want determent of crime...............lock up that persons parents BEFORE he is so screwed up, he turns into a killer. If you can figure out a way to do that, you will save many lives.

If you allow executions, I think that sentence should only be imposed in extreme cases where the guilt is without doubt, where there have been witnesses or else overwhelming proof of guilt. And I think it should only be imposed for murder or extreme crime eg a terrorist ringleader.
Most criminals seem to be in jail for lesser crimes-violence, drugs, theft etc We also have people in jail for what I would call crimes of stupidity or bad judgement but not necessarily intent to do evil. I think I have mentioned before about a friend of a friend, a man in his 50s who had bad eyesight and drove after the doctor told him his eyes had deteriorated. Had an accident, other person was hurt, man rang ambulance and helped hurt man till they arrived. Hurt man recovered & home 2 weeks later.
Crime? Yes. He definitely should not have been driving. Sentence 9 months in prison with not a day off, even though the jail authorities wrote he was a model prisoner. In my opinion, no good came of jailing him. He would have been better off with community service.
Then we have gang members who deliberately bash etc yet get off with warnings. We need prosecutions that more accurately fit the crime.

PS Just thinking of tourism & Florida. You won't get aussies travelling there just for Disney world but you will get international tourists passing through for the huge cruise ships that leave from Port Lauderdale. They're the world's biggest ships, they are glitzy and if people want to go on one, they have no choice but to go through Florida. I don't think it will mean those tourists travel right throughout Florida though. More a fly in, fly out tourism with maybe a day or so around the port area.

First of all Sherri, Eye witnesses are the worst evidence produced. Most of them (yes, I said most) get it wrong, unless they know the person ahead of time. If you want the best proof....it is DNA comparisons, and I'm not talking about the $99 kit you get from Geneology.com. Spend the 2-3 thousand and get it right. www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-the-eyes-have-it/And one other thing.............anyone who gets on one of those ships deserves everything they get. They are floating death factories, IMO. This..........came out of Ft. Lauderdale last year. Who in their right mind would want to get on one of these things? You would have more room in downtown Bombay.
