Just a quick note: the DNA test done on ancestry for $139 is very accurate-but it is accurate for what it is doing, and that is matching DNA to determine relationships. It has accurately matched me with several people who are related, and told me the likely relationship. It has told me what areas my DNA is most commonly found in these days.
That is all it is doing though. It isn't a medical DNA. I have had a medical DNA done & the cost depends on what depth you want it done to. The more markers they look at, the dearer it is.
As for the ships-about 5000 people a time get on each of those ships every week so there must be a lot of people out of their minds. I can't see your photo but it's true you're not on your own on a cruise. But it is amazing how many spots you can find that aren't crowded and sometimes no one else around. I remember a couple of cruises back, a friend and I were in a spa at the back of the ship. Just us, no one else around. The ship was rocking and rolling and all the deck chairs had been cleared, we had the spa to ourselves. Every now & again people walked out or past but it wasn't a big spa so they missed out.

I thought you might like to see some of the ship photos from my sister. Looks great, doesn't it.

"Justice systems are not now, nor ever have been a deterrent of crime"
Well I'm telling you they are and you can compare the effectiveness of different sentencing regimes.
You are right though, law enforcement per se doesn't deter crime, it arrests alleged offenders.

Nope, that doesn't sound like the ideal holiday at all but I don't think they were in danger of drowning at any time. Just discomfort & inconvenience with some of the toilets backed up. It sounds as if the air con wasn't working either, which would be horrid in the inside cabins, probably not such a worry if you had a balcony cabin.
We usually have inside or once we had window (non opening) so no it wouldn't be good for us.
But in fairness to the cruise company. Barlow said crew members were distributing free beer and wine. "Everybody's just trying to do the best they can," she said.
Passengers would receive a full refund for the cruise plus transportation expenses and a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage, said Cahill in a statement.
They would also be reimbursed for all shipboard purchases except for gift shop and casino charges.
The company has reserved more than 1,500 hotel rooms in Mobile and New Orleans for passengers when they reach shore and arranged 20 charter flights along with buses and other transportation, Cahill told reporters.
That's not bad, it's as fair as they could make it. I'd be happy. If you were on a plane with problems you might crash whereas a ship with problems usually makes it back to port. The Costa Concordia sinking was not the fault of the ship & a cruise ship sinking is pretty rare.

And just let me say, isn't life ironic. Here you are, living right on the spot, with Fort Lauderdale a home port. You could go on these mega ships in a heartbeat. Yet you aren't interested.
And then you have Loli and me. We would give our eye teeth to have a cruise on one of these ships but we're thousands and thousands of km away.

Well, come on down ladies. I have plenty of room for you at my house. The pool is in good shape and Ft. Lauderdale is only 2 hours away. I even have an old (2005) Lincoln LS that I use as a "spare....I call it the beater" that you can have while you're here. Imagine the vacation.....Disney World 1.5 hours from here; Cape Canaveral 2 hours from here; Ft. Lauderdale 2 hours form here; Miami & South Beach 2.5 hours from here.
Now that would be a vacation.......I may never get rid of you two?

Well hello, yes, been to Calif Disneyland, and it was such an amazing place, wish we had spent more than one day there, to really see it all. And them rides in Tomorrow land were the best!
As for Melbourne crime souring, yes, can't say it was the Africans can we! Apparently, thee has been about 1 million newcomers into Victoria, but 40% are born overseas, not here in Oz. Do we really need more people here, it's so bad with the traffic as it is, and so forth.
I wonder if we brought back executions, just how much would it deter crime? Aren't we a laughing matter anyway, where it is always said "our law is weak". Watching a doco about Ned Kelly recently, and there was a petition with 32,000 signatures to stop his hanging, I was astounded, I never knew that. But it was all to no avail, and they hung him anyway, age 25.
So then we had our last hanging of Ronald Ryan, in the 1960's. It just seems so harsh, executing a criminal by way of hanging.
I think if anything, by lethal injection may be the nicer way to go, and if someone is found to be so guilty, and for this, without the risk of innocents being wrongly executed, cold cases with DNA are not the most amazing technology. Hows that little girl 47 Years ago in Frankston, (she was 3 at the time she was taken, never to be seen again), and all those years ago, this cold case thing with DNA, they found the guy that did it. He has his own family too, yet at the time, he was a teenager.
So how does it play out in their minds, thinking they are safe, living life, whilst they took a life, and the victims family suffer all those years.
The 3 brothers of that little girl, wished their parents were still alive to allow them some closure that the abductor/killer has been found to be prosecuted.
Well, these cold cases that are being solved are very interesting, and if they can do that with very old cases, then it would be better with anything that happens in the more current times. At least it sorts the innocents from the guilty. Unlike decades ago.

Love it Sherri! And promised the son and his new wife, a delayed wedding gift of a cruise, to go with us, and happy they were to hear that, and hubby says, you heard of quad share! (haha). Always wanted to go on a cruise with our kids and their partners. I like big ships, and big planes, small ships and small planes make me nervous.

The only trouble is, learning to drive on the other side of the road may be confusing. You might have to be our chauffer! BTW...isn't that Disneyworld in Florida full of water holes and alligators/crocodiles?

It's Florida Lola..........most of the people here are from New York and don't know how to drive. We'll just put extra strength bumpers on the car and cut you loose. If you see a Yankee plate on their car...................drive over them.

Haha it sounds like Springvale where I grew up. Springvale is next to a suburb that had a migrant hostel so many migrants found work in the area and moved nearby. In the mid '70s, all those migrants were suddenly Vietnamese & now Springvale is a very Asian community. Quite interesting actually. People travel a fair way to go to butchers there.
But the driving!! I am sure most of them bought their licences. A couple of decades back, a lot of the shops etc had Asian gang influence. Not the mafia, I forget the name. In the background, no crime in the general community, but kick backs. I bet a lot of Asians bought their licences as their driving was scary!!
And a word to you daddyo. Never invite strangers into your home!! Not till you meet and assess them. Risky. At the very least, we could be the guests from hell.

DNA "evidence" is not evidence, it is an exhibit. Evidence can only be adduced by cross examination.
