I have been here for over 10 years and I have learned a lot about the wants, desires, misfortunes and disappointments in Great Britain. I hope you have learned the same about the USA and even Texas.
One bit of misinformation about Texas is we have illegal immigrants that cross the Rio Grande River, usually at night, and look for work in the state. They take jobs that Americans are either too lazy to perform, or too beneath them to do it. Yet the Americans complain that the "Wet backs" are taking all of their jobs. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Another piece of misinformation is the Mexicans will work for much less wages than Americans, thus driving the cost of labor down. Again, nothing could be further from the truth. Most companies that hire people.....all people, are bound to minimum wage laws in the US, and minimum benefits that employers must grant to ALL employees regardless of their Nationality, Race, Sex or Religion.
Are there some employers that hire illegals and pay them lower wages? Of course there are, but they are very few, and the number of Mexicans working for them are very small. These guys are low life contractors that do such work as trimming trees, cutting grass, washing cars, etc. They do not make up even 1% of the total Mexican work force. The Mexicans that take these jobs do so because they are ignorant of State and Federal Laws. Once they learn, they quit and go to work for reputable companies.
Now then, I have owned Engineering Companies, Construction Companies and Gas Companies (Propane) over the years. I cannot tell you that I have not hired illegals, but I did it legally. The USA requires that all employees must give the employer two pieces of information. (1) A Social Security Card (so that employers can deduct taxes from their paychecks), and (2) a form of ID with a picture on it. Illegals have many places to shop for and buy these documents. Obviously, all of them are false.....duh? The employer is NOT required to verify the authenticity of the documents. He is simply required to have them in their personnel file. Employers are audited every two or three years by the government to look at these files. It is them who are required to determine the authenticity of those documents.......which they rarely due.
So, why would the government not want to verify authenticity of documents from illegal aliens? Very simple. Employers MUST deduct federal income tax and federal social security tax, and in some states, state income taxes as well. If you are an illegal alien, you don't file a tax return asking for a refund on taxes paid. You keep your mouth shut and go on with your job.......again duh?
The Federal Government makes Billions (Yes, with a "B") off of illegal aliens. Thus, why would anyone want to get rid of them? My answer is we don't. They provide service that most Americans will not do, and they bring Billions of dollars into the Federal Government because illegals do not file their tax returns..............thus, the government keeps all of it.
Now then................how does the system work in England with all of the Pollocks that take jobs in England?
