I guess today is "Boxing Day" in the Commonwealth..........and Kenya (?) I'm not sure what it is, but after reading this.... abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/ap-explains-boxing-day-44401778 I found it to believable. If it has to do with collecting Taxes, the Commonwealth can certainly declare it a National Holiday. What do you think the reason for Boxing Day is? Is this like "Black Friday" in the USA?

We now have "Black eyed Friday" which is the Friday before xmas where everybody breaks up at dinner time and goes on the pi$$. Later on in the night when everybody's drunk they usually start fighting, hence the nick name "Black eyed Friday' Certainly no 'boxing' involved, just a drunken roll around the floor.

I don't remember the reason it was called Boxing day, don't think it had anything to do with boxes left over from xmas day but don't think it had anything to do with being a boxer, thought of checking it out again, but feel too worn out after xmas feasting and boxing day shopping with all prices half price or more!! That exhausted me yesterday. And today is my daughter's birthday, you know, gluten free and vegan....off I go to the shops again. I just wanted to stay in my pyjamas all day and veg out.....maybe tomorrow. Saturday we are off to see Kinky Boots at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne, special prices for tickets for NYE was down to $50 each. As for Black Friday, we have that here, with specials galore at stores and shops, and online.

I once read that Boxing day got it's name from the fact the royals delivered boxed presents to their staff on the day after Christmas day.
But whatever, it is an institution here and a good one. Gives people a holiday to get over Christmas day.

I thought it was because devout Christians didn't open presents on the same day the Lord was born.
Dumb idea! Why even have Christmas? Not smart Vatican and Mr Luther!
Sad!
Anyway, did the First Fleet land here in Australia on the 26th because they held a Robbie Burns night on the 25th?
