I was just thinking about some things from my childhood. Things people did then or things that were common then but you probably would not see now.
Do you have anything that springs to mind? Here are mine.
-back when I was young, there was a milkman who did his rounds each morning & the night before, people would leave the milk money out on the fence or on top of the letterbox. Usually people had a standing order eg 2 bottles of milk, & they'd leave the right money out. Anyone passing by could see it but I don't remember ever hearing of people having their milk money stolen.
-back then, the milkman delivered milk using a cart & horse. About 4am (maybe 5am? not sure) sometimes I would wake up to the sound of clip clop, clip clop, clink clink.
Dad used to be thrilled if the horse did its business in the street, he would rush out with a shovel to collect, claimed it was wonderful manure.
-back when I was young, women used to wear a hat & gloves if they went into the city. I can remember my grandmother like that when she took us into town.

mine was the steel wooden stove in the kitchen one big hot plate with a oven type in it, i remember the milk , milk now adays lasts a lot longer , and i dont think the milkman would get much money , as it would be taken by people now. i remember the continental truck coming with food like pasta salami and italian goods. as a child playing football in the street , very few cars , now forget about it .

I remember the bottles of milk too. pint bottles with the cream gathered at the top. You had to shake it to get it to remix.
Recall my American penfriend was quite taken with it when she came over. Of course you can't get milk like that now, it's all homogenised.
But it was deliciously creamy.

And my parents' first car. They bought it off my dad's parents and it was second hand and quite old when they got it. It was a 1937 Ford, tough as can be, in a dark green colour. I can still remember mum had to crank it at the front to get it going. No such thing as seat belts or blinkers in it.

Dial up internet (doesn't seem that long ago) Ding ding ding ding. We got 6 months free internet with our second computer (this was in 1996). What they didn't say was the server was useless & in peak times you could put it on auto redial for 60 tries & still not connect. LOL

my parents always had a fridge. Apparently I kicked a dint in it as a toddler. It only had a tiny freezer section about the size of a brick though so no one bought frozen food.
But talking of ice blocks, there used to be a dry crystal pack you could buy, mix with water (or milk if making the chocolate flavour) put in metal trays with dividers & presto, flavoured ice blocks that you put in a flat cone. We loved them as kids but these days I guess everyone just buys the ready made icy poles.

I remember cream betweens. they were good. One of my daughters. her fav to this very day is a Gaytime. I don't like them much myself-too soft. I always thought they may change the name but nope, they've extended the range.

Just had a thought, Joe. That kitchen cupboard you have where the middle is an ice box section. I think it would be classified as vintage these days & sell for a premium on ebay.
