Does anyone ever ask you ridiculous questions, ones where you couldn't possibly know the answer without more info?
I'm on the ancestry website & I've also had my DNA done on there. (If anyone ever wants a look up of any ancestor, just ask.)
I love it, have really developed some family trees & connections.
One of the features of the DNA test is it will show you other accounts where you have a DNA match and what level of match that is. It will also show you if you & the person you match have any names in common on family trees, any other shared matches with other accounts and if your family trees have any areas in common where the ancestors came from, even if no names in common.
But several times now I have had messages that just say-we're 5th to 8th cousins, how do we match? No other info.
I feel like writing back and saying-how would I know? I don't of course. I ask them for their name and for a list of the common surnames in their family tree.
Anyone else ever get asked some tricky questions?

Another question I got asked once which I thought was a bit ridiculous was when I was taking Literacy Support groups (for weak students) and a mother asked for a quick, sure fire way to teach her son to spell. I listed several different activities they could do, one of them included looking at common sounds and their spelling and words within those groups eg ee see, tree etc and mentioned that it was like anything else & would need practice-the child writing the words fairly often, perhaps in short dictation sentences. So she looked at me and said that's all you can tell me, there's no trick or special technique & all you can tell me is practice? So you don't know either. Sheesh, what do people expect/ If teachers had a magic trick that worked instantly they would use it. Some people these days have trouble with the concept of having to work at things over time.

i could write a book. i get messages like what color should i paint my front fence or how much would it cost to deliver to my house[no mention of where they live.] Haha, it reminds me of a couple of years back, I was browsing gumtree for a product and came across an ad. The ad wasn't actually selling the cleaning product, a woman had this long ad about how she wanted someone to clean her home. The title is what caught my eye & made me start reading at all as it was along the lines of "Messy home out of control". It was a fascinating read as it was a rant against all the awful people she had struck who had answered previous ads & how she had a sick husband & she wasn't going to pay any per hour fee, she wanted someone to reply with a total cost to come clean her house, & they better be on time, quick & cheap etc But nowhere in all her rant & irrelevant details did she mention how big her house was, how many rooms etc. Sort of like your person who demanded delivery costs without even saying where they lived.
