The wife had a weeks holiday to take before xmas so we decided to have a week in Mexico if there was any good deals, and we did. We got a week at this hotel in Nuevo Vallarta on the pacific side for a measly £535 each. So we're jetting off from Manchester airport on Thursday morning, just as a bitterly cold Northerly wind is forecasted. www.riu.com/en/hotel/mexico/vallarta-riviera-nayarit/clubhotel-riu-jalisco/index.jsp

Excellent timing, granty. Hope you have a great holiday. You can show us the pictures too if you want to. I wouldn't mind seeing Mexico & that's about the only way I will in the near future.

Just settled in to a nice condo in Gariche in Panama.
Back home in April 2018.
Should be nice weather by then.

That sounds great, beachbum. Is it the same one you went to last time you showed photos? You sound as if you might be like some retirees here, who travel north to Queensland from Victoria in winter. I don't because we've got dogs and I don't mind the winter too much, we do get some lovely sunny days in July (in amongst the cooler ones).
But it must be nice to get away from snow as would probably be hard to drive in it.

It's just a small condo unit on a big semi jungle area, with 6 condo units, a big casa and a couple of smaller Casitas. We got around quite a bit by bus for half of last winter, but when we decided to make Panama our permanent winter home, we bought a nice used SUV so we spread our wings a little in the later part of last year's stay and we expect to see much more this year.

So, tell us about Mexico, granty. What did you see & do there?

Well Sherri, we did nothing. We just went there, drank beer wine and cocktails, and ate, we didn't even leave the hotel till it was time to go home. Mind you, it seemed funny how they'd decorated the hotel out for xmas in 31degree heat.

Wow, that looks spectacular. great shots. What a lovely place, no wonder you spent your time there. It doesn't seem odd at all to me to be decorating outside in 31c heat. Makes sense really when you think about it. You can spend more time outside when it is warm so you can get to appreciate it more. I was thinking just the other day, I'd hate to be trying to shop & driving everywhere in driving rain or with snow on the roads or where it was getting dark early. (Yes, I left some shopping to the last minute!)

Great photo's Granty.......and you're doing an excellent job in holding that Palm Tree up.
Beachy - Is Panama one of those S-Hole countries that Forest Trump has been talking about?

Great photo's Granty.......and you're doing an excellent job in holding that Palm Tree up. Beachy - Is Panama one of those S-Hole countries that Forest Trump has been talking about? You would have a hard time convincing the hordes of American retirees who live there. The cost of living for so many things especially medical care makes it a no brainer even for people who only have basic social security There is all the usual tech junk. I get a phone and data plan for $15 US a month The booze is cheap. It has a rainy season, but I don't go there then. They actually respect jubilados as they call retirees and some places actually have dedicated lines for them. That they drive like maniacs is about the worst thing I can say about them.

You got me at "The Booze is Cheap'. I feel the same way about Mexico.
Glad you have a warm spot this winter.......it's even cold in Florida. 36F outside right now.

I didn't realise it could ever get that low in Florida! We're having a little burst of heat here at the moment. High 30s. Over 100f in the old measurement. Good thing about it is the washing dries in no time. It's reasonable inside as we have the aircon going.
