......that the Christmas rush seems to have started really early this year? It seems to be in full swing on TV with the ads. Two of my grandkids just went to a breakfast with Santa at a local shopping centre. Had a great time. I went over to meet them afterwards to look at shoes for one of them. It's a big complex but by the time I arrived (9.20am) the car park was pretty full already, only a few spots left outside in the boiling sun. By the time I left (probably about 10.45am), car was like a sauna but people were desperate even for my spot. If it's like this in mid Nov, I think I better get all my shopping done early this year as it's going to be hell by Dec!! Here are 2 of the grandkids at their breakfast. The boy in the blue T shirt/green shorts is my grandson & her cousin. (you can probably see the photos okay but if you can't, click on one & they should turn bigger)

I always used to use special santa pillow case type bags when my kids were young. Then we would just stack the toys in them, no wrapping. Usually there were things that didn't fit so we just leaned the sack up against whatever it was. The only gifts that got wrapped were those to other people-but "Santa's" gifts, never. My son & daughter in law are getting a joint gift from us-a radiant outdoor patio heater but the sort that is attached to the roof. I just got a quote. One man advised 2 small as opposed to one big heater, Price was fine-but installation was $900. I should have trained as an electrician I think!! Well, maybe not, they have to crawl into roof spaces with spiders.

All my 3 year old grandson wants is a Mr Potato head. I nabbed the last one at Toys R us today. Only about $16 as I got a discount. Sometimes kids don't need a lot, they're as happy with little things.

i am afraid these days calling plumbers electricians even painters are all gigantic over priced i remember when we moved here and the wife was saying the oven does not seam to get hot enough, called the company he came in the kitchen and said i know the problem but i have to charge you a call with the first 15 minutes about $100 then , then he said it will take 15 seconds to fix , he pulled the on knob out and there was a screw there and just turned with the screwdriver and bingo its fixed, [arg anyway if it happends again i know how to fix it]

If I buy my son the heater, he will have to get the electrician himself. I expected a few hundred $$$$ but not that much!!

Go to Home Depot and buy your son-in-law a book on how to "Electricity". There's always enough "Juice" in attics to wire up just about anything. It's not that difficult.

I'm not sure what you mean, daddyo. It is illegal here for people who are not electricians to do some electrical work. But even if he wired up the heater himself, it would still use electricity which would still get charged for on his bill. He doesn't have an attic, homes here don't have attics or basements.
I think probably the best bet would be solar panels.
