Was wandering through the local shopping centre this morning & could hear singing-turns out there was an Elvis impersonator there & a couple of dozen seats, plus lots of people standing around watching. He was very good-lovely strong voice, sparkly red & silver outfit with flares. The full works. On the way back I had a bit of a look at the audience though and got a shock. There was the singer, belting out Johnny Be Good, and one woman was up and dancing away & a lot of heads nodding in tune, but as I scanned the crowd, they were all elderly types. Like me, I suppose. But grey heads ruled. Hardly anyone under 40 to be seen. Made me wonder, how many young ones would even know of Elvis Presley these days?

I saw James Taylor at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, Colorado in the later 1970's.Great entertainer. I also saw Gordon Lightfoot at the Santa Fe Opera house in the early 1980's. Check him out. My most favorite Lightfoot song is "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Lightfoot lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico and boy, did he pack the house. I never was a big Elvis fan..........too many chick songs........then he got fat. Must have been the fried banana sandwiches. Now, Chuck Berry or Buddy Holly......those Bubba's know how to rock & roll.

I had a friend who was a huge Elvis fan. When she went overseas she even made a special visit to Graceland. I think a lot of the songs he sang have become classics. But it is like when we were on our last cruise. They had a band there called the Beatle Boys. Now to see these men in concert on land, you pay a fair bit for a ticket. Not as much as the big name stars but we're still talking about $105-$145. So anyhow, we couldn't pass up the free seats in the theatre & the band was great! Probably as good as the originals as far as voice went. The crowd was up & rocking but again, most looked to be seniors. We were on Princess line & most passengers are older anyway. An hour of it was enough though. Even when you don't realise it, your ear gets used to the world you live in & I was finding I was ready for a change to something more modern by the end. One of my daughters used to be a huge Beatles fan. When they went to England, both daughters have photos of themselves crossing Abbey rd. Apparently it took ages to manage as it is a busy road!

I always rate a a singer not by his looks, or if he could sing, but more so if he could write a song himself. (so that's Elvis off my list)
As for the Beetles, I could of wrote half of that drivel, the most overrated band ever.

I'm a bit different, think the voice counts for a lot, even if a singer didn't write the music. That's a different skill. The looks shouldn't matter but these days it seems the visual presentation almost counts for more than the sound.

Lynard Skynard would probably make no 5 in my favourites. But The Doors will always be my no 1. Jim Morrison had everything, he could write music, he could sing, he had the looks and charisma.
