On the weekend we went for lunch to a restaurant called Sky High, up in the Dandenong Ranges not too far from here & I thought some of the overseas members might like to see some photos, although quite a few of these are from the web as I had the camera in the boot on the drive up & back so couldn't take photos on the drive. It was my sister in law's birthday. The restaurant itself had great views, was nicely set out with linen etc & quite reasonably priced ($40, 3 course meal) but the service & food itself was pretty average. Still, a lovely sunny day out so no complaints. First off, here is where it is. The drive up is a bit twisty turny, exactly like this: With scenes like: and we passed the Puffing Billy railway on the way-didn't go in. It's a bit of a rite of childhood, I remember it well, where you sit in the windows. Get soot in your eyes etc So at last we got there. This is a web photo as are the above ones. Now our own photos. near where we parked. and just below the function rooms-we have stopped for coffee there in the past but were in the function room on Sunday. If you look carefully you can see Melbourne city in the distance.

Beautiful photos of an area with an unusual name......Dandenongs? Translation please.
And all this time, I thought that Texas had the strangest names, like "Old Dime Box", a city in central Texas. I always thought if there was an "Old Dime Box", there had to be a new Dime Box, and sure enough, there is......but it's just called "Dime Box". It seems as though the original town of "Old Dime Box" was constructed many years before "Dime Box". When the railroad (in the 1800's) built a new line about 6 or 8 miles from "Old Dime Box", many of the residents moved towards the rail line and developed "Dime Box". The original Dime Box and the remaining residents there, then became Old Dime Box. OK, it's Texas history........it doesn't have to make sense. I never figured out why it was named "Dime Box" at all.......but I do know the difference between old and new. I used to be new......now I'm old.
And BTW............It ain't as purty as the Dandenongs.
Next time, I'll tell you about "Snook" Texas. It involves very short and very wide Black Bubbas, whore houses and great BBQ. I discovered much of this while working in Wyoming, of all places.
Again Sherri...........great pics of a drop dead beautiful area. I see now that I really need to visit Australia again.............while I'm still vertical.

I had to google it. Apparently Dandenong means lofty mountains. Dandenong
From the Aboriginal meaning “lofty mountain”. Early survey maps spelt the name Tanjenong.
We have a city of Dandenong, which isn't that far from where I live & it is fairly flat there I would have thought. Not in the hills anyway. It's a town with a high migrant population, fair bit of industry. Not to be confused with the Dandenong Ranges, or Dandenongs as they are usually called. The Dandenongs aren't far from here either, just a short drive, but they are the hills. We're not talking Everest here though. Hills only. I think you'd like the Dandenongs, although if you're used to hot weather 24/7 you might have trouble coping as it is a bit cooler up in the hills, especially in winter. In summer it is the opposite story & every few decades there seems to be a massive fire that will rip through sections. My daughter in law previously lived with her parents in the dandenongs. I'll show you a photo of her on the deck at her home. Back when the last big bushfire went through large parts of the state, it went right up to one side of this house but luckily stopped there. her parents have since built a fire bunker into the hill. As for our place names, I think Dime Box wins it for quirky over Dandenongs any day. I'm a bit worried about how you discovered all the whore houses in Snook. I hope it was from the *outside".
