How's this for a fool on the roads?
A friend's husband was driving the work ute home last night, he was in the far left lane. Big road, 4 lanes altogether (2 each way)
Car shoots out from a side street on the right, doing a right hand turn. Meant to give way, but crosses 3 lanes and clips the ute.
Driver gets out and starts abusing my friend's husband, says he must have been speeding & should have stopped. It's raining, friend's husband says let's just exchange details & get out of the rain (he had not been speeding, it was peak hour). Man rants, says no way will he tell anything. Friend's husband says it's the law here in this country & if the man won't tell him, he will take a photo of the rego number.
Man rants more, rings police, screams at them on phone.
They ask to speak to the 'other driver'. They suggest to Rob to just exchange details & he explains the other man won't. They tell him the other man is sounding violent so to go sit in his car and they will come. Which they do. They interview both, tell the other man he was in the wrong, ask for his name & licence (he refuses & starts to abuse them). They eventually get it and show Rob so he can record details.
They then fine the man for assaulting police officers.
All he had to do was exchange his details & he now he faces other charges on top of the accident. Can you believe it? He's uninsured so it looks like he won't pay up for the accident though. Be interesting to see what happens.
These are the sorts of people we have to share our roads with. It's a worry.
