I hope she takes a detour & doesn't show up there at all, except as a bit of tail wind perhaps. She's not welcome.
I remember a while back a big hurricane or cyclone that sort of size over Qld & plans were put in for evacuation of certain areas etc. It was all done very much electronically with messages sent to phones etc If I recall, only one person died and that wasn't the cyclone-it was a man who used his generator in an enclosed space. I don't know why it wiped him out, must have done something to the air, maybe take out some oxygen? I just know there have been a few deaths from people having certain types of heating indoors etc, or using generators.
Take care!

Well, now we got another hurricane that is one day behind Irma. Hurricane Jose.....but not to worry, Trump says he won't let that 'stinkin Mexican hurricane into the country............we'll see
Florida Power & Light (FPL) will shut down both of their Nuclear Power Plants in South Florida this afternoon. They provide 40% of the electricity to the 6 million residents of Florida. Glad I bought a generator. Now, I need to go to a sporting goods store to buy 9mm ammo to deter the looters that will show up any day now.
It's a never ending fight.
Beachy......................how's the gas prices in Canada these days? Ours have just about doubled. Glad I'm not sitting on an Interstate Highway with bumper to bumper traffic with a bunch of Yankees that don't know how to drive........Talk about Road Rage.

Good luck! Looters usually take things from shops or homes where there is no one around, or that is what it seems like in past news clips. They certainly won't be out yet, they will be home preparing to take shelter. It will only be after the hurricane and if power & supplies are cut off for days that there will be trouble.
Here's hoping your area is not too badly hit, that you're on the outer edges of the thing.

Beachbitch says that gas prices have gone up by about 25%.
I never even check, I pull up to the pump, tell the guy to fill it , tap my card and drive off.
I gassed up the other day and from a quarter of a tank in my Ranger pickup to full,it was $61.00.

The 'good' news is that by the time it gets to the Tampa area, they seem to expect it to be a category 3. It's not great I know, but better than Cat 5.
Thank goodness you don't have a home right on the beach. I think half a mile inland, you should be safe from a storm surge, or I hope so.
I guess if petrol has run out, you won't be going anywhere but I suppose if you had planned to, you would have up & gone a few days ago.
Okay, stay safe. Which rooms are you staying in? I always remember people talking about cyclone Tracy which hit Darwin back in about 1974. A friend's sister in law lived there. I think she was pregnant at the time. They were all in the bathroom as bathrooms apparently are the strongest part of the house. Lying there with their feet up against the doors & walls. The bathroom ended up being the only room in the house left standing. Everyone was evacuated in the following days. That cyclone hit Xmas morning & the strength of it took everyone by surprise, they had not been expecting it. Forecasting is much better nowadays.
Come to think of it, perhaps now isn't the best time to share that little reminiscence but I am confident you're well prepared.

The cruise liners in Miami are running some good specials this week Sherri. Come on down. Right now, they are parked in the Gulf. They might be able to pick you up in Houston.

I'm on a couple of cruise message boards-must go over & see what they are saying!! This might not be quite the best week for my cruise on one of the big ones, daddyo. I ended up sick the last cruise I was on (just for a day) and that was just a storm, not a hurricane or anything like it. Missed my dinner, so I did!
But I do aim to go on one of the giants one day. Must make a note in my diary-Aug-Sept seems to be hurricane season.

So what's the sky looking like at the moment? Read an interesting old book a while back-Wyatt's hurricane (about a weather forecaster who suspected a hurricane was going to turn towards a Caribbean island, which it did, but right in the middle of a political coup.) Fiction of course but the descriptions were interesting. Cloudless blue skies, then the skies turned a bit brassy looking with some wisps of cloud visible and a slight breeze starting to kick in. After that it was about 12 hours away.

I just looked up Royal Caribbean (as their ships regularly sail out of Florida. A couple of their smaller ships are going to be used in rescue work-dropping supplies/evacuating people in the Caribbean.
The larger ships seem to rescheduling/changing itineraries but one seems to be leaving in just a couple of days (wed instead of Monday). I could be reading things wrong but the report mentioned one cruise that was cancelled, rescheduled for next week, 4 days instead of 7. People who took it up would get a 50% credit, those who couldn't go would get a 100% credit towards another cruise. If you are unable to travel and need to cancel next week’s cruise, we will provide you with a 100% future cruise credit
Okay, maybe I am being picky but I would be angry with that. If they had to cancel a trip completely they should refund the customers their cash. A lot of people who go on the big ships travel from all over the world so will possibly be losing air fares etc and future cruise credits usually have a use by date. People may not be able to schedule overseas holidays again in time.
But possibly of more concern-a lot of the islands in the Caribbean that are usually ports of call might be too damaged for ships to stop for a while & this is going to really knock the economy in the local areas. Once relief efforts are underway, if people could also help to get their ports up & running, that would be a huge thing to help them.

Hmm, are they crazy? Just saw footage of some areas in Florida where the water has receded a long way out, and people walking down there or riding their bikes etc.
When the water goes out like that, it means it is going to surge in again like a tsunami. Time to head to higher ground, not wander around on a tour!!

Hey........It's Florida Sherri.....full of fruits, nuts and flakes.
Irma on her way out......she's headed to all of the places were Floridians evacuated to. Wouldn't that be a bitch to drive 20 hours in bumper to bumper traffic only to find out the Hurricane shows up on your doorstep.
Jacksonville got hammered this morning...still no power there and lots of flooding.
We lost a very large Oak tree in the front yard - about 40' tall with a diameter of 30+ inches.......and me with no fireplace.
Lost power from 4:30 AM last night to 2 PM today. Not a big deal for us.
Anyhow, she came and we kicked her ass.............sort of. Now the cleanup begins..........ugh.
