She'd be charged a fortune in excess baggage weight otherwise I'd try it for sure, Joe. How come you aren't going too? It would be a lovely time to visit England, heading into autumn there so the worst heat of summer would be over.

Hey I should tell you a funny story about excess baggage costs. You know Lola who is on this board? Well, I met her years back on another board & she and our husbands, we all went on a cruise together from Brisbane a few years back. Had to fly up. Went a budget airline, Jetstar I think. Luggage allowance was 7kg for on board luggage included in the cost of the fare & it was $10 extra (one way) for a suitcase up to 20kg. So I booked my husband & myself as a suitcase each ie $40 total for the return trip. Lola decided that as we were going for a week, they could manage with only the carry on luggage & I think one suitcase between them.
Fast forward to the morning of the flight. Things didn't go well for them, they were running late due to the parking place they used & we saw them racing through. But then their hand luggage was weighed and it was over by a couple of kg and they had to pay excess fees of... $40. One way. As her husband said later, they paid an extra $40 in the name of economising. We still have a bit of a laugh about it but she was upset at the time. PS we all helped them out on the return trip so they weren't up for a second $40-that would really have sent her blood pressure to boiling!

Ah your wife is Welsh then, or English. It is a long way to travel, I know. It's the thought of the long haul flight that turns me off too.

You're a champ. Joe. I think business class is probably worth while for the long haul flights. I have a friend whose son is a Qantas pilot and she & her husband often get free upgrades from cattle class to business if there is room there. They spend about 6 months travelling overseas so she said it is great to get the family bonuses like that, even when it is only for one leg of the trip.

We were in the Golden Lion on Saturday night, (local pub in St johns Chapel) got talking to this Australian tourist who booked in for the night. He'd just traveled from the west coast and was on his way to Whitby on the East coast and decided to stop off on the way. He said, "he went up a steep hill on his motorbike in blazing sunshine, and when he got to the bottom, he'd never seen rain like it. Welcome to the great British summer we said.

Haha. Sounds like it was a good time to stop off & St Johns Chapel would be a lovely place for a break, by the looks of it.
The heaviest rain I have ever seen in my life though was in a more tropical place, up in Queensland, tail end of a cyclone. We weren't in the middle, didn't experience the cyclone itself, just on the outer edges where we got the rain.

Beautiful photos Granty, and Milo looks like my son's dog (my grand-dog) :-) So cute, but seemed to have grown almost double the size of his siblings!

THESE pictures make me want to live there or visit anyway , tasmania might be a lot closer and prob cheaper, in this country house prices are crazy in fact a joke. You can say that again! I can't get over it, how an ordinary house, maybe 3-4 bedroom, with an ensuite, on a 1/4 acre block or smaller, can go up over $100,000 in a year! And Methven's real estate, has said there was a landmark sale, with a 2 bedroom unit going for nearly $600,000, that's about an hour east of Melbourne, not even in Melbourne district! I feel sorry for my children's generation, won't ever be able to afford let alone pay off a mortgage a today's house prices. I know interest rates is stable and low at present, but what's the point of low interest when house prices keep climbing in such exorbitant amounts?
