My Granddaughter, who is visiting this summer, loves to play Fast Pitch Softball, so we entered her into a local Fast Pitch League here in Tampa.
She is a Pitcher, and her average pitch speed is 72 miles per hour.....they use radar guns to measure it. That speed is world class.....especially when you're only 15. I am a big believer that if you keep your children in Sports, they will not get themselves into trouble. When my granddaughter isn't playing Fast Pitch, she is in a competitive swim league (freestyle and back stroke is her specialty), or she is also in ladies Volleyball. I believe that it won't be too long before Universities line up at the door with scholarship offers. I guess I forgot to mention she is great in math and wants to go to Engineering School. My youngest granddaughter, who is 10 years old is also in competitive swimming and loves Tennis more than any other sport......she is the Artist in the family.
At home we've been watching the World Cup of Softball (WCOS), which are professional women's softball teams from all over the world. The Aussies have one player who must be 7 feet tall, or very close to it, and she can hit like Mickey Mantle. These "Down Under" women are tall and strong. Same with the Canadians.
The WCOS for this region is being played in Oklahoma City. They are in the final stages, and the rankings are as follows:
No. 1 USA 7-0
No. 2 Japan 6-1
No. 3 Canada 4-3
No. 4 Australia 3-4
No. 5 USA JWNT 3-4
No. 6 Puerto Rico 2-5
No. 7 Philippines 2-5
No. 8 Mexico 1-6
The big games today are USA vs Japan (WWII all over again), and Canada vs Australia (may require two games if the Aussies beat the Canadians in the first game).
The top three teams will advance to the final rounds, all the others go home.
I love watching this sport. These ladies are tough, strong and never give up.
