I came across some photos of a suburb near me. Joe will probably know it or have been through it at some stage. Dandenong.
Here is what it once looked like: This is the main street, Lonsdale st, that runs through the middle of the shopping area.
The photos were taken some time around early 1950s.
My first memory of the area would be some time mid '60s when mum occasionally took us shopping at the market and it wasn't like this then.
Here's a 1970 photo.
They have been fiddling with those roads ever since & I know things have to change but really, who on the council thought it would look better without the palms?
It looks to me as if the median strips are pretty much in the same place, they could have left some.

DONT remember the palms as the first years of my life i was from balaclava then 30 years ago i went fromcheltenham to dingley keysborough. i must admit that strip does look great at night lit up , and a lot of the shonky cash and carry places closed down . also then and now , my girlfriend before i primed painted her and now after 1 coat of mythic paint.

Nothing like a coat of paint for improving appearances. I might buy a tin of it, Joe.

Meant to add, I lived on the other side of town in Reservoir till I was about 6, and then my parents moved to Springvale. They lived there till they died a few years back. I worked in Keysborough for my first 3 years out teaching.
