Before I start, never mind anything about a heat wave we're supposed to be having, it's a cool daytime high of 14 degrees here. Anyway, every time this time of the year I take Milo out for his evening walk along the rocks and past Trow quarry, I see the latest school leavers drinking beer and celebrating leaving school, and setting foot into the big wide world. They get hoodies printed off saying "leavers 17", I had to buy my Estra one last year "leavers 16". The novelty will wear off in the next few nights though.

Fantastic views at least. You're having a cool spell, that'll discourage them from pulling all nighters there.
Over here, a lot of school leavers have an almost obligatory week away up on the Gold Coast-Surfers Paradise area. The place gets invaded by thousands of 17/18 year olds. As you can imagine, some of the hotel rooms get trashed so a lot of places charge a hefty bond of about $1500 now.
It is now starting to be common for a lot of them to take off to Bali for a week & drink themselves to a stupor. There are always a few deaths.
The trend for a week away was there when my kids left school but they didn't go off, thank goodness. I think the cost turned them off.

I assume that a "leaver" is someone who recently graduated from High School and not someone who left on their own accord? We call those people "Drop Outs"
I remember my graduating bash very well. We all went to the "Kentucky Bar" in Juarez, Mexico and finally got Mary Jane Robertson drunk enough to dance on a table at the bar. That girl could really move her.......well, you know.....an unforgettable sight.

Yes, school leavers are those finishing school or graduating. In fact, back in the day (going back about 40 years ago now these were changed/abolished/renamed etc), there were external exams here for what are now called Year 10, Year 11, Year 12. They were called Intermediate, Leaving and Matriculation. I think in the 1920s-1960s, a lot of people left after year 11, hence the name. Matriculation was more only for those who were going on to university. These days school leavers are year 12 graduates.

TO daddy o. memories when i used to work thru home a car pulled up at my driveway, this magic blonde girl got out of the car she had the shortest skirt ever made, a tiny open top with large [am i allowed to say hooters] as she walked down the driveway they moved right and left right and left , a very bubbly bouncy girl. anyway she told me she was picking up her paint order , as i went to get it one of my cats always comes to greet people and most start patting him, well when i got her paint , what a sight she was bending down patting my cat , nearly dropped the paint, even after 6 years i keep looking at my sales in case she buys again. p.s i normaly get 65 % of my custermers female , but this was special. to sherri please excuse me if you think this post is sexist

No, it's not sexist, joe. If she had an ultra short skirt and a low cut top, she was probably pleased to be appreciated.
But if you're selling paint, I'd say the odds of getting many young ladies buying isn't that good. It's usually middle aged folk who are into that sort of chore. Well, I would think so, based on my own kids. They have all now reached 30 and only the middle one has ever wielded a paint brush. That was to varnish some drawers.

Does anyone want to buy a 'leavers 16' hoodie? Worn once, you can have it for half of what I paid for it. The first to send me 20 English pounds, and its yours.
