Found this guy while driving in the mountains of Panama. He does everything from house numbers in wood planks to this.

Very nice work. Looks like Cedar, but not sure.
How are you going to get it over the wall when you come back? Looks heavy.........maybe hire 5 or 6 Mujados with 24' ladders?
Anyhow, back on topic.........great workmanship. It's good to see there are still craftsmen in the world.

Looks good. That sort of style was very common here but mainly for coffee tables. They usually cost a fair bit as a lot of work goes into them. Be good for you to get something as a memento. Does he make interesting lamp bases or something like that?

Hey Beachbum, just getting back from Cuba, and the place was crawling with Canadians. Do you's all have a mid winter break South to escape the harsh, dark Canadian winter?

Yes we do excpt Beachbitch and I extend it a little. We go to Panama for 4 months which really knocks a hole in the winter. Getting to the end now, but if I can change airline tickets without having to break the bank, we might stay 'til the beginning of May.

I'm sure you know this, but it is extremely cold in Canada and Northern USA. In fact, the frost level has reach down into the Tampa, Florida area. When I got up this morning, the temperature was 31 degrees Fahrenheit...............unheard of in Florida.
On the news this morning they showed a light house in Cleveland, OH that was frozen over with a foot of ice on it.
Hopefully it will warm up down here by this weekend.

I saw a photo, I think from Canada, where a whole house was frozen. It was apparently a holiday house down near a beach, no one was in it. I am sure that can't be good for a house, all that weight of ice on top and sides etc

Even better all the plants & palm trees made it through the frost. How cold does it get down under?

Depends where you are. I'm in the south so we have 4 seasons. Summers are mild to hot, winters usually cold and can be wet although we do have some lovely sunny winter's days in June and July. If you live in the hills or mountains or ski resort areas, you might get some snow. Where I live, we don't and I like it that way. We are not equipped to deal with snow clearing where I live, the roads would all be blocked.
If you go to the north of Australia, you get a more tropical climate-just a wet and dry season. Where Freon lives, you would be having a very cold snap if it dropped below about 25c, which is roughly 80f.

There's not much difference between winter and summer in South Shields, it's wet and windy nearly all year. That wouldn't suit me either. I am fussy with my weather. Not that I always get what I want. March is usually beautiful where I live though and this year is no exception. Day after day of sunshine & warmth without excessive heat.
I did hear of friends of a friend who came out for a visit from England some years ago. They came out in the middle of the year which is the middle of winter here and had believed all the hype about sunny Australia etc. Only they were coming to Melbourne, about as far south as you can go without heading to Tassie. They soon saw the error of their ways and had to go on a shopping trip pretty quickly as they had brought nothing in the way of a jacket or long sleeved top. I can't believe anyone would do that. I always take some sort of cardigan or wrap or jacket, even when we sailed in the tropics.

Could I recommend Orlando? ? OK, just kidding. You're better off in Miami..............on South Beach. Leave the kiddies and Mama in the Hotel. I'll meet you there.

Got back today from a friends house in the mountains in the shadow of Volacan Baru.
From there, to almost sea level where we are staying, it takes half an hour steeply down hill.
In that half hour, the temperature went up better than 20 degrees.
As the real estate people say "Location Locaation Location"

Did you get into Costa Rica Beachy, or stay in Panama?
The Irazu Volcano is one of the most interesting parks I have very been in........simply breathtaking.
Are you staying on the Caribbean side, or Pacific?

Are you staying on the Caribbean side, or Pacific? We went to Costa Rica and stayed for three days in a resort, but only because your drivers licence is only valid for three months after arrival down here and we are here for four months. Our rented condo is a few miles inland on the Pacific side. Crowded beaches.
