My wife and I watched a movie titled "The Dressmaker". She loved it.......laughed all the way through it. I thought it was one of the weirdest movies I have seen in a long time. To me, it's one of those movies you have to watch two or three times to pick up on all of the nuances.
This is the URL for it - www.imdb.com/title/tt2910904/ Watch the Trailer. It is funny, but by the end of the movie........I was tired.
It takes place in a small town in Australia .............somewhere in the Outback, I imagine, in the 1930's or maybe the 40's. A hometown girl (Kate Winslet) returns to exact revenge on many of the townspeople who made fun of her as a child (she was fat & ugly as a child).
I will warn you................it is weird, but on the other hand, my wife loved it, so maybe it's more a chick flick than a manly movie.

I went to the movies quite a while back, with a friend, to see it. We enjoyed it but yes, it is a bit weird. But heck, I get sick of all mega serious movies.
Had a seriously satisfactory ending, didn't it!!
It reminded me very much of watching a play, not like current movies where they all aim for 'realism'. Each character was so overdrawn it was funny, but they really were little pearls of characters.
We laughed all the way through it too but I am not sure it is the sort of movie my husband would enjoy.

Australian movies are usually unwatchable dreck unless they are kids/family movies.
What they ought to do is do a proper remake of On the Beach or a Town called alice - and quite frankly, I usually despise remakes.

Muriel's Wedding - EndingActually, they nearly all cop a good end.

LOL You'd love the ending of The Dressmaker. In fact the whole show is great, really different.

I love Muriel's Wedding, and find myself jokingly saying to my son's fiancé (whose middle name happens to be Muriel after her grandmother)....."You're terrible Muriel!"
As for older Aussie movies, really love them, so much character.
I saw "The Dressmaker" and loved it, but it was weird, with that isolated outback weirdness about it. But that Liam Hemsworth, when he had his shirt off for a measure, OMG...what a scene, or should I say spunk?
Recently, went to see the movie at the Reading Cinema in their new recliner seating lounge, "Passengers" and we absolutely loved it, really felt we were on that space craft, in the middle of isolation in space. Wouldn't mind going to see it again. I think the acting was brilliant in one particular scene in the medical room capsule, and felt tears welling up in my eyes. Also went to see Rogue One (Star Wars) and it was good, with some recognizable iconic stuff from the original Star Wars, which brought it together. Nothing is ever as impressive as the first one though, it truly was ahead of its time, back in 1977. But a difference was, dirtier clothes, brown eyed dark haired actors and actresses, not all blonde and blue eyes with white robes like back then.
Speaking of Star Wars, the new "Tomorrow Land" in Anaheim Disneyland, was to die for, absolutely loved it!

It's on TV tonight. Wondering.. should I watch it again? It's funny as & the scenes are a work of art in themselves.
