Ever been to a AAAAA restaurant that was so good they had to kick you out at closing time? My Number One pick is the Columbia Restaurant in YBOR City, Florida, which is now downtown Tampa. The cuisine is not only some of the best in the world, but the atmosphere is like eating in a museum. Simply superb......even Emeril likes it. Take a look...... www.columbiarestaurant.com/Menus-By-Location/Locations/Ybor-City-Historic-DistrictWatch the videos.......you'll be booking your ticket to Tampa tonight.

I wish I had known this a few months back, I would have directed my friend Sue to it. She's currently either in UK or USA and she finds American restaurants very challenging. I don't know why exactly, because she always seeks out the good ones.
Melbourne (inner & city) is a bit of a foodie paradise but not always necessarily 5 star restaurants. Where Sue lives (Glenferrie Rd) she is in the heart of the café culture with fantastic little cafes and bakeries. I think over here we do cafes and tea houses really well. So Sue says, anyway. She's more the international traveller than I am.
On the other end of the scale, I probably more often end up dining at pub bistros than 4/5 star. Joe, just as a head's up, if you register your name on Wheelers Hill Hotel website for their newsletters, on your birthday they send through a $20 voucher. If you've got a seniors card, that will pay for the best part of 2 meals. Plus they'll give you $2 vouchers with your meal, which you can put towards drinks. We're not talking 5 star food but the views are 5 star, looking over the hills.

This restaurant used to be my favorite, and I would frequent it when I was in Mexico City. If I remember correctly, the property used to be a ranch belonging to Cabeza de Vaca (translates to Head of the Cow), a famous Spanish explorer that settled in Mexico. The restaurant was established in 1647, making it the oldest restaurant I have ever been in. The place is a living museum of art with much of the artwork being produced in the 15th and 16th centuries. Complete with murals on the ceilings.
The food is exquisite and cooked in the same manner as the day it opened.
Welcome to Hacienda de los Morales (The Morales Ranch/House)_

If you need anything translated, let me know......more than happy to help.
BTW - If you can't get lucky after bringing a date to this place............there is something seriously wrong with you....or your date.

The restaurants look lovely, daddyo. If I am ever over that way, I will try to have a meal at them!
Love the art work in the Mexican restaurant. Would be an interesting place to visit.
Again off topic slightly but I was just looking up some reviews of wheelers Hill hotel (the one I mentioned earlier). I'll show you a pic. Truth to tell, it is just a normal suburban hotel bistro. The food is average-some dishes are better than others but most are okay.
But I had a good laugh at this review: I asked the waiter if I could have something from the seniors menu and the smart ass told me: Of course if I had a seniors card. Being 39 it's quite obvious I haven't got one! Isn't this ageism? At the bar I wanted the complimentary drink with kids menu and I asked for water, the waitress told me I could have a soft drink as well but I insisted having water.
Don't know if it works exactly the same in US but over here if someone has a senior's card, they can get discounts at various venues eg transport, movies, a discount meal at a lot of hotels. Usually a smaller serve, mind you, but half the price. But you have to show your card. And as for water-the bottles of water/glasses are up on a counter for the taking, why anyone would not just help themselves I don't know. I do enjoy absurd reviews.

Nice view. Do they offer a fried Roo tail, or BBQ Wallaby Ribs??
Over here, there is no "Senior Card".......just a driver's license that shows age, but no one asks for it. You would get served an item from the senior's menu, but if not a senior you would pay full price. If you even remotely look like a senior, no one questions you.

Maybe that reviewer would have been insulted if they accepted her as a senior.
Over here, you don't get the card automatically at age 60, you can only apply for it if you work under 30 hours week, I think it is. So senior in age and no longer in the full time work force.
Some of my work mates were disgusted that our prin applied for it and was quite proud to get it. Now he works full time & earns a mega wage (compared to most of the teachers, anyway. It's a 6 figure amount.) The thing is, he salary sacrifices so most goes into his superannuation or a trust and he pays himself a pension so he doesn't count it as a 'wage'. But it is still cheating the spirit of the card. Mind you, I am not sure how useful he finds it, he drives everywhere & I don't think he does pub bistros.
