Carol and I just got back from Los Cabos and I can tell you, we had the best time of our life.
We started with a Southwest Airlines flight from Tampa to Houston. then changed planes and flew to Cabo San Lucas......a delightful flight. The flight coming back.......not so good. It was on American Airlines and was 2 hours late getting into Cabo. By the time we got to Phoenix to clear Customs and change planes, it was too late to board our connecting flight.........hence we stayed in Phoenix that night in the worst hotel I have ever stayed in since my younger days in Rawlings, Wyoming. Anyhow, we made it back......eventually.
I put American right up there with United for customer service.
We stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Resort in Cabo. It is an all inclusive resort where everything is paid for, and I do mean everything, including meals, room service, many excellent restaurants and even..........here it is..........liquor.
I have not been a big fan of "All Inclusives" in the past because most of them are NOT "All Inclusive". When Carol and I went to Cancun, it was nowhere near the quality of this hotel.
We went downtown to Cabo and had a great time at the Giggling Marlin Bar, known for hanging you upside down and having your picture taken next to a Marlin who just caught you.....we didn't do that. Hang me upside down and you never know what will come out. Notice Bruno, the English Bull Dog. That dog owns the place. He gets all the free beer and nachos he wants.
Here are the photos. If you have any questions...........just ask.

No, but I wish he were. He's a pretty cool dog.
Rumor has it the British Navy set port in Cabo about 10 years ago. Most of the sailors ended up at the Gigglin' Marlin and ran up a substantial tab.
When they couldn't pay the tab, the owner took custody of Bruno (the British Bulldog, until they could come back with the bar tab money). They never did and Bruno is now a Mexican Citizen........sort of.
I don't really believe the story, even though it is a good one, but I'm told that Bruno's favorite brew is a pint of Harvey's Blue Label, which I have never heard of, but I did try it in Cabo, and it was quite excellent. Bruno has good taste.....and the owners are excellent sales people.
Now then, what I do know is if you give that dog enough Nachos and Beer, he will clear the room in no time. I have never seen a dog who could fart that long.
I would love to have him the next time my in-laws show up.

Poor old Bruno, dumped by the British navy, it was probably Andy. At least he's ended up in a good home.

Andy's too dumb to have a dog like Bruno. Andy's dog would be a pit bull. He needs something to protect him from himself.

I've flown with American Airlines, and I wasn't impressed. Good job my flight was cheap.

Aren't they the mob that dragged some passenger off a plane a month or so ago? I was a bit surprised by that. How they thought they would get away with that I don't know.
I haven't been on many flights but enough to know I hate flying. It doesn't scare me, don't get me wrong. I just hate the rigmarole at airports, having to be there super early. I hate having to try to get on board, they seem to have different check in procedures every time I turn up. But mostly I loathe economy air travel and the squishiness.
Worst flight for it I have ever been on was a few years back, on Jetstar I think it was. seats were so close together that they were fixed, no reclining possible. I wasn't even sure if I would be able to hold a book to read. A couple of the toilets conked out so the queue was super long for the one still in operation. One woman in a seat near me was crying because of claustrophobia. They ended up moving her to the front. Maybe it had more room there I don't know. I don't suffer from claustrophobia but I could feel it getting to me a bit, being so confined. Thank god it was a short trip, only about 3 or 4 hours.

Sounds like a ship cruise. But yes, I know how you feel, and it American where they bumped Dad, Mom and their infant baby in Hawaii. They had little money left, no room and no flight out. Criminal to me. Next time, drag one of the stews off the plane instead of a passenger. They provide piss poor service anyway. Look at the money you could make. No stew salary but passenger fees saved.

Believe me, a cruise is like heaven compared to flying. You turn up early, yes, but you are processed then walk straight onto the ship. They do take your photo, scan you & give you a card which you need to keep on you pretty much at all times. It's a combination room opener, credit card, your exit card off the ship (so they can check the photo ID as you come on & off at ports). That's why you see cruise passengers with lanyards and cards round their neck.
But you walk on board & you've got a room with a bed, an ensuite bathroom, a fridge, a wardrobe. Your bags are delivered to your door. You can wander to the buffet for a coffee or tea and snack whenever you want. You can go in the pool, you can sit in a deckchair-you can do whatever you want as the ship is leaving. You're not stuck in some horrid little seat for hours and hours.
I agree, if a staff member can't go on a plane because they have overbooked, the staff member needs to miss out. It stands to reason that staff member can't be a steward or pilot as they don't take passenger seats. So they can offer customers a cash amount to get off but if no one takes them up on it, the staff member should be out of luck. As for the stewards on planes. In the last few years my flights have been with economy airlines and meals and drinks *aren't* included. Mind you on our international flight (NZ) we did buy coffee & a sandwich each. But I see those stewards as salespeople, sort of like café staff.

My thought on that is if you have to bump someone, you do two things.
First you guarantee meals etcetera and future hotels if necessary and any out of pocket expenses will be paid.
Then you offer an amount of money for the inconvenience.
And I mean real money, not credits on future flights with expiry dates.
If no one bites, you up the ante with more money.
Still no bites. More money.
It would be almost like a poker game with people betting on who would chicken out first and take the money.
Still beats the hell out of dragging cut and bleeding old men off a plane by the legs as we all saw on national TV.

You are totally right, beachy. But that is obviously too logical.
I think I read that they were only able to offer the man $1000 compensation, that was the company limit. I can tell you now that if I were, for example, on an international flight with connections to other flights to be made half way (which is often the case when flying out from Aust-it can sometimes take 3 different flights to get home), then $1000 would not even begin to cut it. Booking different flights at the last minute is usually mega expensive. I bet their compensation covers only that particular flight & not all the connections.
