I don't know why I have not seen this movie before last night, but it is great.
It is about a British family of 5 on vacation in Thailand when the tsunami of 2004 hit the resort they were staying in.
The acting is unbelievably good, and the cinematography even better.
Naomi Watts, who now claims to be an Australian, was nominated for the Best Performance of a Female in a leading role (Best Actress). She did not win, but came in a very close second place.
300,000 people lost their lives in the "greatest tsunami" of all time.

She's a well known name in Australia. She is a bit of both, born in UK but has lived here since her young teen years. Has an Australian born grandmother and a mother who lived here for part of her youth too.
It's funny, I was thinking of that tsunami yesterday. It did get a lot of publicity at the time but when you consider it, not so much since. If it had hit Europe or US or anywhere like that, I think it would be a big news item every year. Maybe it still is in the places most affected.
