Whenever I go somewhere new and it's a big city, I always do the 'hop on, hop off' bus rides. We had three nights in San Diego, and it's definitely the cleanest, most beautiful city I have ever been. Me and the wife, in Balboa park $10 jugs of Corona

Looks excellent, granty. Can't say I have always done the hop on & off buses but I remember years ago we did, in Adelaide. We had a few hours to spare before getting on the train to Alice Springs so did the quick tour. It's a good way to have a look around in a short time. Mind you, we had been to Adelaide a few times before but the kids hadn't.
I remember there was one funny moment. The driver was speaking to what must have been another bus driver on some sort of intercom/phone It wasn't loud, but we were up the front. We heard the other guy say to slow down on such & such a corner, there was a man with the gun there. An American woman near us looked a bit spooked till her husband said to her-I am sure he means a speed gun.
Did the quick bus tour in Noumea too. That was interesting.
If you want clean, you need to visit New Zealand. It is the most awesomely clean place I have ever been. No litter, graffiti is rare. You'd love it, I think.

The first time I went to San Francisco I made the horrible mistake of renting an automobile. The cost of the car wasn't all that much, but the cost of parking was unbelievable. Expect to pay over $100 per day for parking.
The next time I went, I followed the Granty Principle.............Hop on/Hop off. Left more money for Beer for me and Ghirardelli chocolate for my bride.
If you're a wine drinker Granty, next time head north for an afternoon of touring the vineyards in NAPA valley. Beautiful country, nice drive and what man doesn't like a drunk lady? It's magical.

Apparently excellent. They have a high rainfall, very pure water etc DUX LUX Beer? Seriously? Coors beer is made in Colorado and is advertised as using "Pure Rocky Mountain Spring Water", which really sounds great..............right up until you find out that the City of Boulder, Colorado dumps their treated sewage water into that "Pure Rocky Mountain Spring Water" source used by Joe Coors to brew his beer. But on the other side of that coin, it does have a slight hint of an earthy/musky taste to it.

Dux de Lux. Yes, seriously. Quite famous apparently. My husband was determined to try it. It is brewed on site in Christchurch. It's a craft beer, you'll only find it there, not throughout NZ.

Walmart in San Diego was very decent and clean, not what I was expecting given all the news we get about weirdos therein, nothing like that at all. We did encounter this guy collecting money for the homeless just outside of the Walmart entry. Rellies took us there as I did ask to go to a Walmart, was quite interesting to see the covered area for carparks, were all solar panels, very good idea. Later doing more driving around, it was pointed out where Farah Fawcett Majors lived opposite the beach. We also got to see this old mission church being restored, and the story about the oldest Pepper tree in California is interesting. And we had lunch at this "In n Out" burger place, and got the T Shirt! Then we bid farewell to the elders, and met up with the younger 2nd cousins, where Joey took us in his special car (he is paraplegic), and showed us Oceanside. To think, we went all the way to Dawes Glacier in Alaska via cruise ship, to see some seals on floating ice, only to see a whole lot of them at this marina, on the piers so close by!! Sunbathing they were. I think the pics tell the story below.

Yes we're going to do the vineyards one day, my wife loves Californian wife, and I don't mind the odd glass too.

Excellent photos, Lol. The plant prices look very reasonable. I wouldn't mind a Walmart here although I guess it is similar to K Mart or Target? How did you find the burger sizes? As you know, Sue & David are regularly over in England/USA (they are off again in January-only got back in Nov!) but Sue says the portion sizes are huge and hamburgers rule the take away shops. She said even the fine dining restaurants will often have hamburger or meat loaf on the menu. I don't know how true it is, I've never been over there so it is only her impressions. She said they had trouble finding little coffee shops & eating places-the sort she is used to. You have to remember she lives in the Glenferrie rd precinct so can walk to a lot of quaint, up market spots, I guess. I once showed her a photo of you with your burgers and she guessed immediately what chain they were from.
Love the photo of the seals, very picturesque. It would have been lovely for you to be able to meet up with rellies and be shown around personally. Very special.
Granty & daddyo, you should know that Lol lives in the middle of a wine growing area, there are some lovely vineyards not that far from her.

When I recover from all the feasting festivity, I will be happy to take some photos in due course, and put up on here, of my area, very beautiful and picturesque, of course, even Sherri has some good pics she took when we both went up in a balloon ride over the Yarra Valley remember that Sherri, seemed not long ago, but it was a looong time ago! And our balloon went up 5000 ft in the air....we saw Port Phillip Bay from so high up
